local charm and produce . . .

 . . . sunday . . .
just the 2 of us and of course the "big belly" slowly exploring and negotiating our way around our
local organic markets.
our recent farm visit has inspired our little family to enjoy more of the
fresh produce at our city farm.

a basket or oranges, banana's and a bunch of kale purchased.
herbs and fruit trees inspected and of course chickens to visit and chat with.

home to bake apple and cinnamon muffins . . .
snuggled in for books and we slept the afternoon away . . . just what we needed really!

we made these with our fresh kale. you can't just stop at one, two or three. yum!

The beautiful view from my bedroom window....today was hot and we had old friends over for the day.
Old..... as in dear old friends who I have know for what feels like a lifetime. We had so much fun chatting and catching up, so I forgot to really capture the lovely moments. And the one's I took of the boys playing in the water, under the hose and in the sandpit are a little to bare for display!
These photos captured late in the afternoon....just the two of us playing with water and trying to keep a very tired little boy awake until dinner.

At my house...

Lot's of lovely little pieces inspiring me around my house today. I love to create pretty little corners that feel special and inspiring to be in. I adore rearranging my collection of old jars, shells and trays. The little jars and trays are one's I have collected or discovered in markets, second hand stores and interesting shops that I have stumbled upon during my travels. They provide a bit of character to my sentimental shells and bits of driftwood (I started collecting these when my son was born), flowers and herbs picked from our garden and whatever else takes my fancy. I love to include little finds that my son has found on our walks or visits to the park...seed pods, twigs and pebbles are mostly what he likes to collect or hold onto as he plays. I also have a real love for books, old and new...on the weekend at the fair I found some sweet little books that we have enjoyed reading and they will become part of a display at some point I am sure.

Collecting is fun...interesting, inspiring and I must admit a little addictive. I have a collection of beautiful Christmas decorations that I mostly purchased when my husband and I lived overseas...We have continued this little tradition with our son by collecting a new decoration each year for him to place on our lovely family tree...a decoration that has meaning to us or one that we have handmade together.

I think it is nice to create little traditions and fun to feel inspired in the home by objects that are not expensive but objects that are close to the heart. What objects do you like to collect and what sits on your window sill ?

The little white flower was picked by my little one on Saturday morning for me...it sits on my window sill reminding me of how sweet and loving he is. He has such a precious and loving nature.

At my house...

We had so much fun opening a parcel that arrived in the post from my sister who is travelling through Europe. She knows how much we love all things nautical...the above pictures are of a little paper sailing boat that you put together yourself. It is from Croatia where she sailed the coast for one week. You can check out her stunning pictures here.

I am also having fun creating little play spaces within our home for all the new toys and lovely gifts that our little one received for his 2nd birthday. One of my favorite past times is pottering about the house and rearranging toys, bedrooms, cupboards and display shelves...although much to my husbands dismay he can NEVER find anything!

At my house...

Today is a busy day. Birthday party planning and crafting is on the top of my "to do list"
I am feeling excited and inspired with what I have laid out before me so far. The party has a very...little boy carnival... theme to it.
My husband and I have had fun coming up with some vintage style games such as: Knock em down tins (I have been saving tins for weeks now)! Spoon and ball races (I have painted some wooden spoons and found little coloured balls to be placed on top) Tug of war (this one is on my husbands to do list) Bean bag toss (I found this at Spotlight - they carry a lovely range called Amscan) you can see it in the image above and it is made of wood which I just love! The funny thing is this is a family party...there will only be 3 little boys and 13 adults. So the adults are in for lots of running about and laughs and not a lot of sitting about eating cake...not that they would I know they will all get in and have a laugh with the kids and each other. Over the next couple of days I will post some of the crafty preparations and some of the delicious (I hope) food recipes that I have planned for Sunday. Happy Monday...I am off to start some crafty chaos!
